Using Proactiv Acne Solution to Help with Acne

Proactiv Acne Solution

Proactiv solution is the most popular, commercial acne treatment available. The basic regimen includes a three-step program with a cleanser, toner and lotion. You apply the cleanser morning and night and then apply the toner after cleansing, as needed. Lotion is then applied to hydrate the skin.

Proactiv Ingredients

Cleanser – The proactiv cleanser contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. Studies have shown that 2.5% concentration is more effective than a maximum strength 5% concentration for treating acne.

Toner – The toner, applied after the cleanser, contains glycolic acid, which is another popular treatment. The toner may cause drying so it may be best if you only use it as needed.

Lotion – The lotion contains 2.5% benzoyl peroxide along with other non-active ingredients to aid in hydrating the skin to balance the toner’s effects.

The Proactiv system should not be used with any other acne treatment or prescription. It may cause severe irritation and redness. All of their products are oil free and designed to prevent bacteria from entering your pores, the main cause of acne.

Benzoyl peroxide may cause inflammation when exposed to the sun, so wear sunscreen outdoors to prevent redness. Proactiv also sells a sunscreen, but any brand with SPF 15 or greater will work.
